Building Wind Energy, Powering Sustainable Communities
The Project
Clean, Green Energy for all
Rooaunalaghta Green Energy Ltd. is proposing a wind energy project with thirteen wind turbines in the townlands of
Cloughmoyne (also known as Cloghmoyne), Rooaunalaghta, Kinlough, Carrowoughteragh, Toorard and Brodullagh
South. The site is located within an area designated as ‘open for consideration’ for new wind energy development in
the Mayo County Development Plan (CDP) 2022–2028.
The project aims to generate clean, renewable electricity while
supporting Ireland’s climate and energy commitments. The proposed wind farm will help reduce carbon emissions,
strengthen local energy resilience, and deliver long-term environmental benefits for future generations.
Why Wind Energy?
Recent climate statistics show the planet is nearing critical limits. Global temperatures from 2023–2025 are the highest ever recorded, averaging close to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Oceans are at record heat levels, driving sea-level rise, while extreme weather events like heatwaves, droughts, and wildfires are becoming more frequent and intense. Despite some environmental progress, global emissions remain too high, meaning the world is still off track to meet key climate targets. Onshore wind energy projects form a key part of the Government’s plan to enhance clean electricity generation, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, meet Ireland’s environmental targets and move towards a more secure energy future. We believe that wind energy will play a central role in Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon economy by 2050.
